Los Angeles is steady putting out beautiful singer-songwriter’s. It’s only fair that we continue to showcase the stunning works of those talents both big and small. Los Angeles based musician, THEO KANDEL has just released his new EP, “Spin Cycle”, and to say I’m obsessed is an understatement.

His journey began in New York City where he grew up, learning many different styles of music, he dabbled into classical and jazz & then finally decided it was time to pick up a guitar and it kind of took off from there, to say the least. “Growing up in New York, I got super into folk music – that was what drove me to write initially – but I always found that my music was too pop to be completely folk, and too folk to be completely pop,” 

Theo’s stunning voice started its’ growth process when he packed up and left everything behind & headed to Nashville, where we would begin most Nashvillian’s dream – becoming a musician and star. He began working on music and becoming more ‘mainstream’, and as a result, the new “Spin Cycle” EP was born.

With the current pandemic, and overall non-mainstream music space, THEO recorded this STUNNING body of work in his Nashville bedroom – just adding even more beautiful elements to the embodiment of artistry.

“You know, I think the most important part about the recording process is the quality of effort that you put into the recording itself,” says Kandel. “If you get good takes on a good microphone, you can really do anything on a computer. So usually I’ll record all the vocals and guitars and most of those parts that I can do, and I’ll arrange that to the best of my ability. Then, depending on whether it’s a song I’m producing with Ben Pleasant or with Justin Johnson I’ll go to their studios, also in their bedrooms, and we’ll kind of work out the kinks.” – Theo explains about Spin Cycle.

What comes across in the six-song collection is equally as vulnerable as it is highly unique. Penned about the emotional aftermath of a relationship, Spin Cycle traces the storyline of a breakup. Through the seamlessly flowing concept EP, Kandel captures what he surveys as “the idea of circular thinking that you can have when you experience heartbreak – or any kind of sadness like that – where you keep finding yourself back in the same place.”

There’s no doubt in our mind, Theo will make massive waves in music. With his unique voice, stunning songwriting, paired with beautiful production – Theo is setting the bar high for all upcoming musicians in the Pop-Alternative genre. Spin Cycle showcases vulnerability, passion, and a desire to tell a story that many can relate to. & to say he does it beautifully would be a true understatement. If you haven’t become a fan of his work yet, I genuinely think this is the body of work that will do it for you.
