Artist Spotlight: Rob Flo Making Waves with ‘Nylon Fire’ Project

Los Angeles Singer-Songwriter, Rob Flo is making waves with his newest project, ‘Nylon Fire’. The project features 9 insanely addicting new tracks and showcases the growth the young emerging artist has endured recently.

In the new project, Rob uses his smooth vocals, hypnotic beats, and original lyrics to create the signature Alt-Pop sound he is best known for. Growing up in a broken household, Rob Flo credits his parents’ divorce for teaching him the art of songwriting and the work that goes into making music at such a young age.

During this time, Rob found a creative outlet for his emotions through journaling, which led him to realize the similarities between what he wrote in his journal and the songs he would hear on the radio. It wasn’t until age 12, however, that Rob recorded his first song on his personal laptop in his room. Though none of those songs have been released, Rob cites his past of journaling and recording as a catalyst to his artistic journey and where he is today.

Since his transition from bedroom to recording studio, Rob has worked and collaborated with artists and producers like Kevin Abstract of Brockhampton and Ricky Himself. Drawing inspiration from artists like Jean Dawson and Dominic Fike, Rob’s recently released debut album “Nylon Fire” showcases his range and growth as an artist.

We set down with Rob Flo to get more in detail into each track. Take a look at what Rob had to say about each track on this album.

missed ur party opens the album with a catchy melody and pop beat before tunneling into a broken, experimental ending. The song is rooted in self-doubt and tells the story of letting people down again and again despite trying to change. However, even through anxiety and failure, I know I can make it if given the chance. straight jacket tells the story of my journey with music. Throughout my entire life, I’ve had people tell me how my music should sound and what type of art I should make. It was like they were putting me in a straight jacket. This song tells the story of me staying true to myself, sticking to my vision, and standing for what I believe – no matter what that takes.

energy is one of my favorite songs on this album. It tells the story of doing what people don’t expect of you – and guarding your energy when they try to attack you for staying true to yourself even when that might be unpredictable or hard for them to understand. comfortable is the most pop ballad on Nylon Fire. I created this smooth melody for the hook that, to me, just felt comfortable. I wrote this song about connections with people in your life that just feel right. Whether or not you understand it, whether or not it makes sense, it feels good and you want them around you. Part of the song also focuses on letting go of what you can’t control and learning not to overthink or overanalyze every little thing – or you might think your way out of something that was really good for you.

I wrote ouija board one night when I was feeling alone and nostalgic. To me, this song takes me back to being a kid when life was care-free and the biggest the only demons we had to worry about were the ones we were scared of while playing with ouija boards. The song bounces between present life and its stresses and the blissful ignorance of being a kid just having fun. one night is definitely the pop anthem of the album. With a guitar intro jumping straight into a catchy verse, I wrote this song about having fun and chasing love, even if just for one night. I really love the way this song makes you feel carefree and fun as it carries you through the hook to the guitar playing the melody at the outro.

willow dr. is written about the struggle of an artist coming up from nothing while seeing how other people with money and connections can get away with whatever they want. To me, this song is about reclaiming that power. It’s about changing the game and letting anyone break the rules and succeed, no matter where they started from. That’s when true art is made. make it bttr is actually one of the very first songs I ever wrote for Nylon Fire. I love how different this song is. For me, this one pushed me out of my comfort zone. I felt like it was the first time I really had full control over the sound I wanted to make – and I think you’ll be able to hear that. From the warped sounds to the guitar solos and anthemic drums, this song is packed with emotion but still feels so freeing. It’s about chasing what you believe in and what you want – and always working to make it better.

The final track on the album, 9., was added to the tracklist less than a month before the album dropped. I wrote this song after finalizing Nylon Fire, but for some reason I kept coming back to it. The way the melodies flowed from one to the next, the style of the vocals…it just felt like the future to me. I decided to add the song to the album as the final track to give any listeners a glimpse of what’s to come. I literally had to call my graphic designer and ask him to re-do the back cover of the album to add this song in. When he asked what I wanted to name it, I hadn’t even thought of that. I just said to add a number to the tracklist and that’s all it needed. I wanted the song to speak for itself.
