Dante Palminteri Talks “Brunettes” & Artistic Influences

“This song is about diving headfirst out of your comfort zone and loving what’s on the other side.”

Dante Palminteri is an accomplished alternative pop meets rock singer/songwriter and actor. Since first making his mark on the music scene back in 2018, he’s released a number of catchy indie hits addressing issues such as anxiety, lost love, deception and adventurous romance. His new single, his first release of 2021, titled “Brunettes”, is a charismatic alternative rock tune complete with a stadium-worthy chorus, intriguing hook and robust guitar riffs. PopWrapped caught up with him to talk artistic inspirations and his plans for the rest of the year.

At what age did you first realise you had a passion for music and at what point in your life did you start properly exploring that passion?

I always remember being around music. My mom and dad were constantly playing their favorite bands. When I was in middle school my friends and I started a band that went well into our late teens. That was my first exposure to live music. We played hard rock around Long Island and NYC. That really jump-started my love for playing.

Who and what are you most inspired by as an artist?

My biggest inspirations are John Mayer, Chet Baker, and Jason Isbell. I also find I am inspired a lot by chefs. The precession and madness of someone like Anthony Bourdain really inspires me to hone in my skills and then when it’ time to write, just love what I’m doing.

Is there a story behind your latest single “Brunettes?”

This song is about diving headfirst out of your comfort zone and loving what’s on the other side. In my case, I had someone to pull me out, but the fact remains. The best things in life are past the comfort zone threshold.

“Brunettes” has more of an alt-rock sound compared to the more pop sound of your previous singles. What made you decide to switch things up in this way?

This was really always my sound I just never released any of the music. If you heard my old band, you would be like, ‘Oh this guy has been doing this forever.’ I wouldn’t say this is a new sound for me but rather me returning to my roots, and what made me want to write and play music in the first place.

As well as being a singer, song-writer and musician, you’re an actor. What parallels do you find between the two careers and what is unique about each of them?

I find acting gives me an advantage when writing for other artists or writing a song about something I personally haven’t experienced. It gives me the skill set to put myself in mental situations to grab some needed emotions.

Finally, is there anything you can tease about what fans can expect from you in the coming months?

More music and then more music. I have releases ready to go after this one that will be rolling out. Music in 2021 is a game of numbers and the more releases you put out the better.
