The music Avi Mack creates and shares is testament to his desire to truly be himself in every aspect of his life, and while his songs are unapologetically pop, they’re filled with substance. Born in Texas, raised in Canada and now a South African local, the life Avi has lived allows him to have and express a rather unique perspective on the world. While unafraid to address many of today’s social issues, his music is driven by a juxtaposition of personal experience as well as a deeper thought process of personal growth – and nowhere is this more evident than on his EP ‘Maye Never’, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere.
Avi says of the collection: “”Maybe Never’ is really a search for certainty. I’ve been grappling with the idea that nothing is really certain. That we are all living in a state of flux. The EP speaks to that, there are just so many things that feel ambiguous in my life. Where there isn’t a categorical answer, only a sense of spectrum which could go either way. It’s understanding that feelings are not binary and have spectrum and movement within them, the play that I am always looking for certainty, but never truly can attain it.”
He goes on to add that: “‘Maybe Never’ is about being an idea to someone, and about the relationship that follows from that. It flows from the beginning and starting excitement of the relationship, to the deterioration of it, the loss and grief, and finally the reflection process that we all follow in relationships. But more than that, there is engagement with myself. I write, in so many ways, to understand myself.”
Asked what he wanted to achieve with and through the EP, he shares that ‘Maybe Never’ is: “…my first body of work, and I really wanted to create something that felt holistic. I wanted it to feel like it was part of something bigger, and extension of my thought process at this current time in my life. It’s been something that I’ve truly poured myself into.”
