Andrew X has a prolific background in music, performing all over the country in different capacities and his previous band, Hot Vegas, had a large following on MySpace. If you remember him from those days, the feeling of meeting someone online and falling in love, something he touches on via new single “Stranger”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, might be familiar.
He’s an artist here to remind us of the joys of our youth. “Stranger” is light-hearted and harkens back to the sounds of early 90s rock mixed with 2000s indie. It’s the first single off his upcoming album Young Hearts and the nostalgic elements of the song mixed with the story it tells brings a certain feel-good energy to the track.
In and at a time where and when so many voices are focused on the difficulties we’re facing, this project was created to bring a light to happier things. Andrew X wants to provide a soundtrack for the positive things in life, like falling in love. He says “Stranger” is: “…the story of someone who has feelings for someone they have developed a relationship through social media and/or over the phone, yet have never actually met it person.”
“Stranger” was written years ago about a girl who was interested in working with his old band. “We instantly hit it off and felt like we had known each other for years,” Andrew X explains. “Over the years we always continued to keep in touch online and by phone, but never actually met in person. We often spoke about getting up at some point, but it never seemed to happen. I even bought her a plane ticket one time, but she had to back out at the last minute. If I didn’t know people who knew her personally, then I would have assumed she was a Catfish. We are still friends to this day…online.”
