MuMu Presents “Brooklyn Tonight (Unplugged)”

“…inspired by a friend asking me to write a song about being the only queer person in the room….”

To say MuMu is multi-talented might be quite the understatement. Having attended a performing arts school, where she studied musical theater, she then went on to appear in plays, commercials, and movies, such as David Chase’s Not Fade Away and TV shows like Nurse Jackie and the acclaimed, long-running series Law and Order SVU. She then took to the biggest stage of them all – Broadway – making her debut in Donald Margulies’s The Country House, and most recently, she wrote all the songs for – and starred in – the 2020 movie Best Summer Ever, which also featured Maggie Gyllenhaal, Peter Sarsgaard, and Benjamin Bratt.

While she still loves to act, MuMu has, both as an individual and an artist, always wanted to tell her own stories. This desire led her to turn her attention to music and saw her enrol in NYU. While there, and guided by a number of mentors, she developed her own lyrical sound and style, one that addresses issues such as women’s rights and several other themes related to sexuality, body confidence and gender.

Today, PopWrapped are delighted to premiere her new single “Brooklyn Tonight (Unplugged)”, which was written and produced with Jamie Lawrence, together with contributions from guitarist Jack Broza and bassist Carlos Henriquez.

In her own words: “Brooklyn Tonight (Unplugged)” was: “…initially inspired by a friend asking me to write a song about being the only queer person in the room. Then my love brain took over and it turned into a queer lady love song because, well, we need more of those. This is an acoustic version of the original for those queer lady slow jammers.”
