Last weekend I was fortunate enough to see John and Hank Green (aka the vlogbrothers) as part of the ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ live tour here in the UK.

The brothers opened the show by doing what they do best – John read from the book and talked about his thoughts and inspiration when writing it, and Hank played plenty of enjoyable songs, some of my favourites about Harry Potter, but also a beautiful song inspired by TFIOS.

As well as this, the genius that is New York Times bestselling author Maureen Johnson hosted Question Tuesday (on a Sunday) with the brothers. Fans were treated not only to details about the book itself, including the original working title, and the story behind the naming of Hazel and Augustus; but also absolutely necessary information such as the phone call Hank received straight after John lost his virginity, and Hank’s skin care routine (if he has a zit he pops it and he showers several times a week – in case you were wondering).

Finally, in true British style, the show was rounded out by a glorious group rendition of The Proclaimers’ ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’, thoroughly enjoyed and participated in by all.

Overall, the enthusiasm of the wonderful staff at Penguin and at Cadogan Hall, as well as the electric atmosphere of a thousand nerdfighters in complete awe of their idols on a stage before them made for a magnificent day. The idea of this excitement shared by such a large group of young people being centered upon one book and one author was simply awesome. The truly astounding thing, however, was the level of John and Hank’s gratitude and appreciation of the audience, and how they shared the same remarkable experience as us. Simply being in such close proximity to them left me personally feeling inspired. As, of course, did the final reminder of what they say in their hometown – don’t forget to be awesome!
