Warm Bodies is your typical teenage romantic comedy… except that one of the members of the couple is a zombie. The premise sounds completely absurd, I mean, look at this summary (from Fandango.com):
A tormented zombie (Nicholas Hoult) experiences a profound transformation after entering into an unusual relationship with the daughter (Teresa Palmer) of a military leader charged with eradicating the walking dead. As the unlikely pair build a tenuous bridge between the living and the dead, those on both sides of the battle begin to sense that nothing in their world will ever be the same again. Warm Bodies is based on the novel by Isaac Marion. Rob Corddry and John Malkovich round out the starring cast.
In a world where the military is trying to exterminate an ever growing population of zombies, one of the dead falls in love with one of the living, but is it any good? Surprisingly, yes! The movie is both funny and poignant. There are also just enough scenes to remind you that you’re watching a movie with zombies in it. Yes, brains will be eaten. You get most of the story from R’s (Hoult) inner monologue. Zombies aren’t so good with speaking, but R’s brian is in tact and he delivers some of the funniest lines in his head.
There are moments reminiscent of Wall-E and Romeo & Juliet, the story is kind of cheesy and those who are overly cynical may not buy it, but as my favorite YouTube Movie Reviewer, Jeremy Jahns would say, Warm Bodies is a good time, no alcohol required. It’s worth seeing. It’s probably a fun date movie if you’re the right demographic (teens-mid 20s).
