The Veronica Mars movie is one of the most anticipated projects of 2014, backed by over 57,000 people raising $3.7M+ in funds on Kickstarter it IS happening and now us fans want to know as much as we can about specifics of the film.
Let’s talk casting first:
One Is The Loneliest Number: So far only Kristen Bell is the only one OFFICIALLY signed on for the film. Now we know from the Kickstarter that Jason Dohring (Logan), Ryan Hansen (Dick) and Enrico Colantoni (Keith) seem to be interested in the project so I’m guessing it is only a matter of time before our favourites are all signed on.
Veronica Has a Beau: No details on whom the lucky guy will be, but if he turns out to be a new face to the franchise… well let’s just start speculating who’s a good fit for the pint-sized spitfire
One Girl Won’t Be Back For Sure: The whole Veronica Mars story opens after Veronica’s BFF Lily Kane (Amanda Seyfried) is murdered and Lily spends her time haunting the cast through flashbacks, visions, and dreams. Series creator Rob Thomas has said that he wants to keep the movie accessible to Mars newbies so the show’s ‘mythology’ won’t be explored.
Let’s look at plot specifics next:
Daddy-Daughter Time Front And Centre: A big part of the series was the relationship between Keith and Veronica Mars, their situation and relationship may not be ideal but they always had each other. It’s good to see that this theme will carry through to the big screen because it was one of the major draws.
Rating: It has been revealed that the film will be rated PG-13; smart move really, it let’s the movie be edgy without missing out on the teen demographic. I’m just hoping Logan and Dick get up to some shenanigans again.
Let’s Fill In The Decade Gap: The Veronica Mars movie will be taking place at the Neptune High 10 year reunion, but we don’t want to guess what our heroine has been up to, right? No worries, Rob Thomas has filled in the gap:
“She transferred away from Hearst college after that freshman year and went up to Stanford and finished her undergraduate degree. And then she went to Columbia Law School. She’s certainly been back to Neptune from time to time to see her dad and Mac and Wallace, but she hasn’t worked a PI case since the last one we all saw in the final episode of Season 3. She ruined her dad’s chance for re-election and she decided that that path had caused too much chaos in her life. And so she hasn’t worked a PI case in nine years. And when we meet her, she’s sort of like where Tom Cruise was in the beginning of The Firm. She’s between having graduated and taken the bar and she’s interviewing at various law firms in New York.”
And Most Importantly: Veronica Mars won’t be dying at the end of the film! With such an amazing response already why cut off the possibilities of a sequel or Netflix Series release? But Thomas teases that doesn’t mean that anyone else will survive.
