Okay, before we let em have it, can we all just agree that the DC Comics films are giving it their best effort? It’s not easy living up to Marvel and their amazing movie franchise.
But hey, they’re trying. We finally have Justice League, and by some accounts, it was pretty good!
Well, ABC was less than enthused at the iconic superhero quartet, going so far as to say the film tipped “the balances back in the wrong direction” after Wonder Woman‘s mostly positive reception.
With Superman dead (gasp!) the world is facing a new threat “at the hands of some ancient creature named Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) ” and his bug-shaped army.
According to ABC, they “look like Saturday morning Power Rangers villains.”
Ouch. But…that’s okay, right? Bad guys are not meant to look like they pose much of a threat. However, because this is the Justice League, and we are already used to seeing some pretty formidable villains, this army is kind of a let down.
Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) team up to form a team of superheros powerful enough to swat these bugs back to where they came from. They find these superheros in Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa), and Victor Stone (Ray Fisher).
But wait! Superman isn’t dead (double gasp)! This was bound to happen, since he is The Man of Steel. But, according to our own review of the movie, his iconic title and strength took center stage–er, camera.
And then there’s the Steppenwolf. If ABC’s description of his army is any indication of how they feel about the villainy of this film, they really don’t like the main baddy.
It’s okay, neither do we.
Justice League is rated PG-3 and is playing at a theater near you.
