Looks like it is safe to assume that Adele is rolling in more than the deep after finishing up 2015.

Not surprisingly, Adele who has been breaking records left and right since the debut of her third studio album 25, has been declared the best selling music artist of 2015. This is according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), who determined their findings by tracking an artist’s sales across physical formats as well as downloads and streams.

Adele was able to achieve this accolade without making the album available on streaming services like Spotify. Her success largely comes down to sales; to date 25 has sold close to 15 million albums worldwide, with eight million in the US alone, since it’s November release.

The project’s debut single ‘Hello’ also helped her secure the top spot. The massive hit was number one in thirty countries, and the accompanying video broke three records on Vevo; most views on a 24 hour period at 27.7 million , the fastest video to reach 100 million views, and the fastest to reach one billion views.

Meanwhile Spotify’s most streamed artist of all time Ed Sheeran comes in second place. He was also 2015’s second most streamed artist, he was edged out in that category by Drake, who comes in at number nine in the IFPI list.

2015 was a very good year for British acts, five out of the top ten in the IFPI list are occupied by the Brits. 

Joining Adele and Ed Sheeran are boy band One Direction who claim the number five spot, following them at number six are this year’s Superbowl halftime headliners, Coldplay, and falling at number eight is balladeer Sam Smith who was still able to rack up sales from his 2014 album In The Lonely Hour.

Previous champ, 2014’s best selling artist Taylor Swift comes in at a respectable number three.
