Why Amazon’s ‘Alpha House’ Should Be Your Next Binge

Back in 2013, Amazon released a comedy called Alpha House and it ran for a modest two seasons before ending, but if it aired today, we’d be obsessed.

Amazon Prime has had a lot of success with their series of original shows like Transparent among others, but we want to share another one you should be watching. Back in 2013, Amazon released a comedy called Alpha House and it ran for a modest two seasons before ending.

The show starred John Goodman, Clark Johnson, Matt Malloy and Mark Consuelos as four Republican Senators who live in a house together while handling their Senatorial duties.

This show begins with a slightly House of Cards vibe, but quickly distinguishes itself as a 30 minute comedy about how hard it is for them to exist in a country run by President Obama. This show is hilarious and that is hugely due to the excellent cast.

Goodman shines as the grouchy Senator for North Carolina who doesn’t want to campaign for his next term because he has it in the bag until a twist forces him to get to work. We also get to see a little too much of him in this sitcom, but it’s so funny that we are ok with it.

Malloy plays a Senator who is an advocate for what the show calls ‘normal marriage,’ but it’s clear from episode one that he may not be being honest with himself regarding his sexuatlity. Watching him deal with his own feelings while also continuing his normal expected duties will provide some great laughs.

Johnson plays another Senator running for another term like Goodman but he cares and we watch him struggle to get the job against all odds.  Also, he’s under investigation for ethics issues which are evident to us as viewers but the show deals with it very well.

Lastly, Consuelos joins the party late in the first episode. They guys need a new roomate and he needs a room so they join forces but Conseulos’ character has big goals and a girlfriend who moves in too causing even more hilarity in the house.

Our point is, in a world where politics really are crazy, this show will give you something to laugh about without causing you to cringe as well. Like we said, there are only two seasons for this show, but we think it came before it’s time.  If it premiered now, it would be the biggest hit on Amazon without a doubt.  So, turn off the news for a few hours and get lost in the golden comedy offered by Alpha House.
