The new season of American Horror Story has yet to premiere, but with all the exciting talk from the cast and creators from Friday’s FX TCA Press Tour, fans could not be more excited! I can attest to this because I’m a huge fan, so please allow for moments of fangirling throughout this story.
The panel did not release many points on what the plot will be, but we do know that it stars some very strong Hollywood females, involves witches, and takes place in the south.
A lot of names have been dropped as far as who will be in the series, including veterans and some new faces including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates. Let’s just all take a moment and let that female powerhouse lineup set in.
Ready for more? As we know, the full title for the next season is American Horror Story: Coven. That’s right, witches! There are definitely witches involved and Lange revealed that she will be playing one on the show. She will also be playing the mother of non-other than Sarah Paulson! Lange and Paulson weren’t exactly besties last season, so seeing them play the mother daughter dynamic is going to be amazing, and will surely result in more memorable performances from the duo.
Witches aren’t the only thing that will be present on the show, writers will be looking to iconic women in history to showcase as well. This includes Kathy Bates’ character, Louisiana-born socialite in the 1800s and serial killer, Madame LaLaurie. Angela Bassett’s character is also a woman known from the 1800s as a Louisiana Creole practitioner of voodoo, Maria Laveau.
That’s about all the information we have learned from the cast and creators involving some of the more in depth details of the show. More broad details include this season being very different than the other seasons in the sense that it’s going to include a lot more drama and humor. Based on the cast, this season will also serve as a very dominant female show. Don’t worry though, there will still be that hint of creepy and thrilling things, especially since we know Kathy Bates will be playing a serial killer! We also can not forget that not all witches are good, so there are sure to be some baddies in there as well.
Excited for the new season now? I know I am! The new season will be premiering in October on FX.
