Answer Questions This Long Lost Star Wars Scene Does: Deleted Scene Released

Kay Ziegler

Staff Writer

There has been quite the disturbance in the force. Star Wars enthusiasts are in the midst of a heated discussion about the beloved science fiction franchise. Certain fans, like Graeme McMillian from The Hollywood Reporter, claim that Obi-Wan and Yoda were ‘jerks’ for keeping Luke’s lineage a secret. This debate has been going on for years, I must add, but it's coming to a head now. However, an unreleased deleted scene from Return of the Jedi seems to answer the question, “Were Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda cool with lying to Luke Skywalker about the identity of his father, a.k.a. Darth Vader?” It turns out that the two Jedis did indeed discuss the facts they hid from Luke. But their discussion never made it into the final edit. In the clip, Yoda is on his deathbed. He can barely speak, but with each gasping breath he cautions Luke about the Dark side. We also learn that Yoda and Obi-Wan had different ideas about whether or not to tell the young Skywalker. It seems Obi-Wan wanted to tell the young man sooner, rather than later. What he says is "Obi-Wan would have told you [about the true fate of Anakin Skywalker] long ago, had I let him." You can see the full remastered 30-minute laser disc, thanks to YouTuber, rotjeditdroid, whose channel is dedicated to this bit of film history. This compilation includes this series enlightening scene. It appears this person wishes to preserve Star Wars history - what a lovely thing to do and how exciting this is! To celebrate the clip, you can also join the Facebook page for the project as well as subscribe to the channel. Watch the 30-minute Star Wars clip here: So, what are your thoughts? Were Yoda and Obi-Wan jerks? Did they do they right thing? Did the deleted clip do anything to add to the movies? Let us know by leaving a comment below!
