Last episode recaps

All three shows fail to deliver strong episodes this week, but none of them completely sucked. Here's what happened:

Supergirl 3×15 "In Search Of Lost Time"

In a fancy lab built to withstand a lot, Lena has Sam under her watch and care, and through studying her genes and looking at Sam's blackout patterns in relation to the news, Lena concludes that Sam is Reign. Of course, Sam refuses to believe it (which is fair) and insists on being let go to get back to Ruby. Lena obviously refuses and decides to provoke Reign by saying that Sam is an awful mother. As Sam reaches peak rage, Reign comes out and goes nuts on the little cell. Lena is safe from it all but has it all recorded. When Sam comes back, she sees the footage, and can't argue with that. She breaks down crying, but Lena is there to comfort her. Meanwhile James is still trying to get some time with Lena, who is busy dealing with Sam. At the end of the episode, they manage to eat dinner together, but Lena says that she can't talk much about her work with James, and he respects that, but it's one of those moments that just frustrates us as TV watchers because we know that so many pieces would come together if Lena told James about Sam as he could tell Kara and the DEO.

And speaking of the DEO, Kara and Mon-El start training together. Mon-El has her working on using her cape to grab and throw people, but it's not going great. Not only is she not getting it easily, but her mind is being infiltrated by M'yrnn. You see, his memory is getting worse so he's started using some Martian magic prayer to rearrange his brain and memory, but in doing so, he's kickstarting some violent tendencies in people all around him. Winn gets in a fight with a DEO agent and Alex has to come stop it before she starts fighting with them too. Kara ends up punching Mon-El (who is immune to the mind games thanks to his Legion ring).

J'onn is very conflicted about his father's issues. He knows everyone's safety is at risk, but he doesn't want to lock up his father and take away his freedom. Of course, when it happens again and much worse, J'onn begs his father to relent and accept the power-dampening cuff. M'yrnn refuses at first, even though everyone in the DEO, including its locked up aliens, are in a huge brawl. Kara and Mon-El were training again and Kara does not hold back her grievances with Mon-El, about how he was constantly lying or not taking things seriously and then breaking her heart. Eventually M'yrnn sees the madness around him and gives up, allowing J'onn to put on the cuff. M'yrnn later apologizes to everyone at the DEO for the damage he's done.

Another apology comes from Kara. She apologies to Mon-El for what she said, and admits that while it came out because of M'yrnn's issues, she knows that it's just repressed emotions and feelings for him. They agree to work together to move forward.

All in all, a pretty weak episode. Nothing really exciting happened. I did like the scenes with Lena and Sam, though, as they were interesting given that they're putting these two characters that we've come to know in a rather different and awkward position.

The Flash 4×19 "Fury Rogue"

Still reeling from Ralph's death, Barry and Iris head off to therapy again, though while Iris is able to be open about it, Barry is "fine" and is clearly holding in his feelings. This continues even later on in the field. Remember the radioactive man called Fallout from earlier this season? (I barely do) Well, he's now on DeVoe's hitlist (for some reason), so Team Flash has to help him and decides to transport him from Tracy's lab to an ARGUS facility. However, he's a risk, and they're worried that he may explode on the trip. They have him in a special suit, but as a backup plan, they enlist Leo Snart from Earth-X to help because his cold gun can stabilize him. Leo agrees to assist, and as he did with the Legends after Stein died, he takes on a role of a pseudo-therapist. But when Team Flash brings Leo over to their Earth, another visitor tags along, unbeknownst to them. Leo was in the midst of fighting with Earth-X Laurel Lance who is out to avenge Earth-X Nazi Oliver. As for DeVoe, he is back in his body and is 100% focused on his plan, leaving no time to romance his wife, who is very upset at this. Unfortunately, I can only feel a bit bad for her, as she masterminded this plan too, and is allowing it to go on. Yes, she's being drugged, but still.

Meanwhile, Harry's use of dark matter in his thinking cap has some negative consequences. Gideon reveals that his mind is reversing and he's losing all his smarts. Of course, Harry will never admit this to the team and get help. So when Cisco suggests they build a second thinking cap, Harry agrees knowing that without dark matter, it'll fail. Later, Harry is forced to admit to Cisco that he used dark matter and now he's paying for it.

Team Flash gets into position for the transport. Caitlin and Leo are in the truck with Fallout, Joe is driving, Iris is monitoring from STAR Labs, and Barry is running ahead, making sure the road is clear. But even with all this protection, things go awry. The truck is attacked by DeVoe, and when Barry and Leo go to face him, things go even more awry. Barry tries to use the Sonic Scepter again but with Ralph's stretchy powers, it's useless. And then, though Leo had been urging Barry to confront his feeling about Ralph, Barry sees DeVoe, thinks about Ralph's death, and freezes. This pause in action allows for Earth-X Laurel to swoop in. She had used her sound powers to overhear where they were, and when she saw Barry, Leo, and DeVoe, she 'screams' at them and manage to take Leo's gun and Fallout. The only good thing about this whole interaction is that DeVoe is completely baffled by Barry's emotions. Even when Marlize explains that he needs to account for people's feelings in his plan, he still doesn't get it.

Earth-X Laurel takes Fallout to the CCPD and makes him remove his suit. She then uses her powers on him, building up pressure. Barry, Leo, and Caitlin get there and try to use cold guns to stabilize him. But again, Barry's unresolved issued regarding Ralph have him freezing up, so Leo has to yell at him. Luckily it works and they manage to take down Laurel and keep Fallout cool. Though as soon as they do, Barry runs off, and Joe when finds him later, he just breaks down crying. After the much needed-cry session, Leo bids goodbye to the team. Also to say goodbye is Harry. He's off to go visit his daughter since he figures that he's not needed with his failing mind anymore. Though Cisco points out that he managed to raise a good daughter and intelligence isn't everything. He also says that they'll do everything they can to help him. As for Caitlin, she's been mourning the loss of Killer Frost, and has been running tests to find her. She eventually figures out that Killer Frost must still be in her somewhere, and she just now has to bring her out.

The last two scenes are of the show's two couples. Barry and Iris are in therapy again, and this time Barry is open and talking about Ralph. Though on the other side of town, DeVoe and Marlize are watching a feed of ARGUS studying Fallout, and DeVoe insists again that their work is the sole focus, breaking Marlize's heart. So I ask again, will DeVoe's downfall be from the inside?

This wasn't a great episode. It was alright, but kind of boring. I love Leo Snart so I was pleased to have him back, but Earth-X Laurel was rather unnecessary. And while I thought Barry's repressed feelings issue was a little cliche, at the confusion of DeVoe was a neat twist. Nothing in this episode was particularly great.

Arrow 6×20 "Shifted Allegiances"

After a disappointing episode last week, I was ready for Arrow to not suck completely, and while this week was better, it still was not great by any means. Oliver is still running solo, and that's not working out well for him. His plan this week was to go visit an old Bratva buddy of Anatoly's to pay off Anatoly's debt and buy back his trust, but Anatoly isn't interested in going back to the Bratva. Anatoly instead just ties up Oliver and then hands him over to Diaz. However, when Oliver says that Anatoly is going against his own morals, it seems to strike a chord in the Russian. After Diaz roughs up the tied down Oliver, Anatoly suggests they untie Oliver so he and Diaz can fight properly. The fight is entertaining, and the two are fairly evenly matched (which is kind of silly given their backgrounds – Oliver was trained by so many greats and Diaz is just a street thug) but when Oliver manages to get Diaz in a headlock, he hesitates to kill so Diaz takes the chance to pull out a knife and stab him a little, ending the fight. Later, Anatoly brings Oliver bandages because Diaz's knife move didn't please Anatoly.

When he's not fighting with Oliver, Diaz and Laurel have other business to attend to. Since Oliver has been impeached, Quentin has become the new Mayor, and Diaz is excited to take advantage of that and his ties to Laurel. Laurel arranges to meet with Quentin, and then Diaz shows up. He gives Quentin a deed to some land that he wants signed over, and Quentin is not pleased with this nor the revelation that Diaz and Laurel are an item. Honestly, the most relatable moment of this episode is when Quentin was just about gagging as Diaz kisses Laurel's neck. Same, Q, same. Later, when Laurel visits him in his office, he gets angry with her and kicks her out of the office and his house.

As for everyone else, they're still on the Diaz hunt. Rene is out of the hospital finally and is pretty ready to jump back into work. He, Dinah, and Curtis have a lead on Diaz and the Quadrant. Over at ARGUS, Diggle and his team have the same lead, so in the field, they meet, and Diggle ends up saving them. NTA and Diggle then converse a little and catch up on all the changes. Diggle even goes so far to apologize to NTA for all that happened, which is super nice of him consider that NTA has way more to apologize for. I mean, they purposely messed with Diggle's arm implant. Where's his sorry? Anyway, this reconciliation allows for the four of them to work together. Well, kind of, as Diggle is still working for ARGUS, and Rene is hesitant because he doesn't want to get hurt and have to leave his daughter again (finally, at least one father on this show is thinking rationally). Diggle says that he's gotten good at shifting between fatherly and soldier mind frames, but Rene can't do it. He sits out the attack on the Quadrant, but later Zoey says she knows what he does and is okay with it (foolish child). NTA and ARGUS manage to destroy a whole drug shipment, seriously throwing a wrench in Diaz's operation. Yay for them, I guess.

My appreciation for Quentin finally standing up to Laurel and her shenanigans is short-lived, because when he goes home and sees her still there, they talk a bit. He says that he saw how scared she was before in his office, and he realized she's scared of Diaz so he agrees to help her take him down. He signs the land deed to get on his good side and protect himself, but Diaz doesn't see it as that, he sees it as an open invitation to take his plan to the next level. He hands Oliver over to the cops, has the courts revoke bail, and moves up the court date. We see various people (Felicity and William, NTA, Diggle…) watching this on the news. It's not looking good, folks.

And that's it. As I said, not a great episode. It was just overall boring. Diaz is not a great villain. I don't care if he does down from NTA/ARGUS, Laurel/Quentin, Oliver, or even Anatoly. I just want this over with. I will say, though, that Oliver being on trial next week seems like it could be interesting.

So while none of the three shows really rocked my world this week, I think my favourite was The Flash. Having Leo back helped this a lot. Which was your favourite?
