The much buzzed about original A&E drama, Bates Motel, has officially been picked up for a second season. With the numbers hovering around 4.5 million viewers for the premiere (including DVR numbers) puts it at the most watched original drama debut for key demos in A&E’s history. The numbers for the second and third episodes are around 2.8 million viewers, still solidly where A&E like to see the numbers.

The ten episode second season will begin production later this year, with an expected air date sometime in 2014.
