Are you a fan of the UK crime drama Broadchurch? Or did you just need it to have that American twist? I’m a fan. But I don’t see an American adaption as necessary. Despite the unnecessary need to do so, however, this excellent television show will be remade for US television.
The drama first debuted in the UK on ITV in March of this year and will be adapted by Fox to broadcast here in the US in either late 2014 or early 2015.
The US version will be similar to the original and will follow the investigation of a tragic and very mysterious death of a young boy that is found on a beach. Fox’s chairman of entertainment, Kevin Reilly, is very enthusiastic about the remake of the show.
Reilly said: “Broadchurch is the kind of storytelling that grabs your attention and keeps you riveted with every minute - which is exactly what we look for in an event series” he said. Reilly also added to his excitement by saying “We love the layered characters, we’ve seen how well-received it’s been in the UK and w’re lucky to be able to bring a new version of this mystery to the US audience.”
While the premiere episode of the remake will be written and produced by the series creator Chris Chibnall. The show will be lacking very important things: David Tennant and Olivia Colman.
The UK version of Broadchurchis currently in the works for it’s second series but the first series can be seen on BBC America on August 7 at 10/9c.
As a crime drama and Tennant fan, I highly recommend tuning in!
