Bebi Monsuta Drop New Summer Jam “808”

“We want those who listen to this project to feel that the truth is and will always be better than a lie.”

Bebi Monsuta are blood sisters and if you literally translate their name, baby monsters. Manami and Akira, born and raised in New York, are a duo who create and share music that highlights their Caribbean, Japanese and Portuguese-Brazilian roots and is often accompanied by captivating and body-bold visuals.

The music Bebi Monsuta make they say is for “the outcasts and society projected villians.” Asked about what they want those who hear their songs to take from them, Akira adds: “We want people to feel motivated and worthy. We want those who listen to this project to feel that the truth is and will always be better than a lie.” “Stand in it, own it and be brave,” proclaims Manami.

Their first release, “Brazilian Sound”,  a funky nod to their heritage, was a collaboration with Brazilian rap duo ABRONCAwhich earned the pair overseas airplay on BBC 1Xtra with Jamz Supernova and to-date has racked up over 200K streams.

New single “808” which dropped this week is part kawaii, part hip-hop. The “kawaii-hop” release is contagious. The girls love to dance, as highlighted with the self-choregraphed video and as they sing: “Bounce, bounce, bounce like it’s 808”, we challenge you not to find yourself doing so.

As for what’s next for the girls, later this year they’ll drop their debut EP, but first, this Friday, they’ll be supporting La Doña at Elsewhere in New York. Tickets can be purchased here. Check out the video for “808” below and for more information on Bebi Monsuta, give their page a like on Facebook or follow them on Twitter and Instagram.
