With the news of the Coronavirus continuing to spread at a rapid pace, several television shows are beginning to take extra precautions to protect the show staff.
Canadian broadcaster Global announced on Thursday night that all live show tapings of Big Brother Canada will be held without a studio audience for the foreseeable future for the safety of show crew and contestants living inside the Big Brother house. The first show without an audience was Thursday night’s eviction with Micheal Stubley coming out of the house to no audience.
“Global and Insight Productions have taken precautionary measures for Big Brother Canada with regards to COVID-19,” the broadcaster said in a statement. “The health and safety of our staff, crew, houseguests, and audience members are of the utmost importance and effective today, March 12, we have suspended audience members from attending live tapings of the show until further notice. We will continue to produce the show and monitor the situation closely.”
The news comes as several sporting events and public gatherings in the United States are being canceled or postponed until further notice due to the virus spreading at a rapid pace in some parts of the country. Big Brother US has already halted their casting calls for their upcoming 22nd season and Survivor has stopped production on their 41st season. The Amazing Race has also stopped production on their show out of concern over the news regarding the situation. Global went ahead and confirmed the show will still air as scheduled and there are no plans currently to stop production on the show.
“Global and Insight Productions will continue to produce and broadcast Big Brother Canada as scheduled,” the network continued. “We continue to monitor the situation closely and will advise on any changes to the production or broadcast schedules.”
Big Brother Canada airs Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in Canada on Global.
