If you’re a fan of artists and bands such as Caroline Polachek and Black Midi, then if you haven’t already, you might wanna give art pop duo Big Kill a listen. They ended 2021 on a high note with the release of “FAT LIP” (ft DEBBY FRIDAY), have earned themselves coverage and attention from the likes of Pitchfork and Earmilk, and now they’ve just dropped their debut mixtape BIG KILL FUTURE, an exhilarating mix of art pop, hyper-pop, dance, electronic, and experimental sounds.
Featuring dark pop hits like “Crush on UUU” and “Rose Colored Eardrums”, and exaggerated slow-motion versions, together with a handful of other addictive, ‘play on repeat’ hits, the collection encapsulates the avant-garde, experimental nature at the core of the project, and epitomizes what makes Big Kill as unique as they are; their ability to blend a combination of experimental energy and pop-forward elements that go zero to one hundred in a matter of seconds is, to say the least, considerably impressive.
What’s also impressive about the pair is the scope of their production; at times it sounds nothing short of cinematic – glossy and immersive. Written, produced and mixed by the duo themselves, with the final mastering touches added by the acclaimed Stuart Hawkes, BIG KILL FUTURE showcases how Big Kill have gone all out to create a strikingly strong and brilliant mixtape, one that sets the tone for what may come in the future and serves as a strong introduction to those who have yet to discover the pair and their talent, taking listeners on a journey into and through their expansive creativity.
