In case you missed it, director Joss Whedon revealed the title of the Avengers sequel at last week’s Comic-Con. It will be known as The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Whedon says that Black Widow will be a huge part of the highly anticipated sequel.
We first saw Scarlett Johansson take on the role of the undercover spy Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, in Iron Man 2. Since then, she has become part of the Avengers franchise, starring alongside the rest of the team we’ve come to know and love.
During last week’s Nerd HQ, Whedon revealed that "Natasha (Black Widow) is a huge part of the sequel because you do want to concentrate on the people who don’t have their own franchises.” We have large franchises about Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, so it would be nice to learn more about the badass spy that can hold her own.
It also seems that Black Widow is Whedon’s favorite among the group. “She was the most fun for me because she’s not a hero, you know, and it’s something that I read - and I feel bad that I can’t remember who wrote the book - but it’s in one of the books explaining: ‘These guys are heroes, you are a spy. It’s a different thing, it’s a different skill set, and you don’t have their moral high ground or any of that good stuff.’” And again, she’s a badass.
We won’t be seeing the sequel anytime soon though since the release date isn’t until the summer of 2015. But we will be learning more about Natasha Romanoff in Captain America: The Winter Soldier next year as the spy and the superhero become rather close.
