I will start this story by saying that when it comes to smartphones, I have always been an Apple girl. I have never seen or used BBM.  However when I saw the news that RIM are planning on launching a BBM app for Apple and Android handsets…my interest was piqued.

Here in the UK, the BBM had become the messaging choice for mainly teenagers due to the relative low cost of a Blackberry handset. Plus the fact that messages can be sent totally free without using credit on the handset. In a market where we now have apps such as WhatsApp, Snapchat and iMessage for Apple users, the question will be will non Blackberry users install BBM?
This user says she isn’t sure. I have managed to stay in touch with the people I want to without feeling out of the loop for not using a Blackberry. The question that is in my mind is, are RIM chasing a foothold in a market that is already full of alternatives? Is it a case of too little, too late?
However saying that, you can bet once the app is available later in the summer, I will probably download the app so just once I can say “Yes, here it is.” Now when someone asks “Do you have BBM, what’s your PIN?” Whether it will stay on my iPhone is another question all together.
