Something is finally going right for this trouble-plagued Western revenge film. First it lost its director, Lynne Ramsay, when she didn’t turn up for the first day of shooting in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Producers were quickly able to draft “Warrior” director, Gavin O’Connor, in as a replacement. Then male lead Jude Law abruptly quit the production as, according to Yahoo News, “he’s signed on to work with Ramsay, and not with O’Connor”. However, hopefully their luck has changed as the Hollywood Reporter has announced that Bradley Cooper has signed on to replace Jude Law. This is the second time this role has been recast – Michael Fassbender was originally attached to the film but left after reportedly clashing with Ramsay.
Cooper will play the villain role in the Natalie Portman-led film. Portman stars as a woman whose outlaw husband returns home riddled with bullet wounds. When her husband’s gang tracks him down to finish the job, she is forced to reach out to an ex-lover (Australian Joel Edgerton, “The Great Gatsby”) and ask for his help defending the farm.
While production is finally underway in New Mexico, Cooper is in the middle of shooting an untitled film with David O. Russell. The Hollywood Reporter has sources saying that he will shoot his parts at a later date.
