PopWrapped caught up with Brandy to talk about her new EP, her musical influences, and what’s next on the horizon for the bright young artist.

Your new EP ‘That’s Unfortunate’ blends unique elements of R&B, soul and pop and feels very personal. Tell me a little more about your EP and what inspired the music. How did it come together sonically?

This EP was inspired by my real life. It came together sonically due to the help of some amazing producers. I definitely wanted a way to blend everything together and I hope the skits brought everyone into my world.

What messages or themes are tied most to your music? What are you wanting to convey as an artist?

There’s definitely a theme of love and breakups in this EP. Meeting someone and obsessing over them just to realize that they weren’t for you and you wasted time. As an artist I definitely talk about my life and relationships often, but I think I convey the message of being ok in a relationship or on my own. I’m a strong woman.

How would you say your new EP differs from previous work?

I think this EP is slightly more soulful with production a little more diverse than the other. However, I love them both the same.

I love the way it’s shot as well as the imagery. He does such an amazing job bringing the audience into his world.

Who’s the biggest icon in music you would want to work with the most?

My favorite artist is Frank Ocean; I’d love to get the chance to work with him.

You’re achieved incredible success as a rising artist in a competitive landscape. What advice would you give to other artists out there working to pursue their dreams?

The advice I’d give is to be consistent and strive to elevate every time.

Finally, what’s next for you? Do you plan on touring in the near future?

I definitely want to tour. I hope that tour continues next year so I can travel the world and reach my fans.
