The hit Broadway Musical, the Book of Mormon might be getting a film version soon. This is great news for those lucky enough to catch it in its many stage incarnations all over the world, but even if you haven’t or you may have not heard of it, there are still plenty of reasons to be excited with the prospect. After all, you get to watch a depiction of several Mormon missionaries as they sing and dance about their lives and their faith. The concept seemed ridiculous , but let’s face it you probably smiled at the images that came to mind.
That idea of that smile on the face of viewers all over the world is probably what prompted, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the producers of The Book of Mormon, in pursuing a film deal. Speaking to IGN Stone said:
“It’s something we want to do. We don’t have any specific plans but yeah, we’d love to do it at some point.”
Launched in Broadway in 2011, The Book of Mormon has received plenty of awards, including nine Tony Awards, one of which was for Best Musical. Its producers Trey Parker and Matt Stone are also behind popular adult animated series, South Park.
