Brooklyn Nine-Nine: 07×13, Light’s Out

It’s chaos in the Nine-Nine this week as the precinct is plunged into darkness during a Brooklyn-wide blackout.

It’s chaos in the Nine-Nine this week as the precinct is plunged into darkness during a Brooklyn-wide blackout. Jake and Charles head out to the transformer that caused the blackout and find a crashed car with a bottle of vodka on the floor. They assume it was a drunk driver and the driver ran away to avoid a DUI. They find their perp in an abandoned building not too far from the transformer and they arrest him for drunk driving.

Back at the precinct, with Terry and Holt trapped in the elevator learning the dance moves to Salt-N-Pepa’s “Push It”, Amy assumes control of the precinct. She hands out orders to everyone, including someone to get her a pair of sweatpants. Her water just broke. Rosa is alarmed and disgusted by this and tries to get Amy to the hospital but Amy says she’s fine and continues running the Nine-Nine.

Rosa calls Jake who is on his way back to the Nine-Nine with the perp. Jake tries to get there as fast as he can but it’s gridlock traffic. Along the way, Jake and Charles pick up Dottie, an elderly woman who can’t get up to her apartment because the elevator is broken, they find a kid with a concussion, and Dottie shoots the perp. Now there are two criminals and no way back to the precinct. Jake, Charles, and their perps get on a roving bar with a bachelorette party where their drunk driver confesses that he wasn’t drunk, he’s two years sober, and that there’s a bank robbery in progress. Now they have to stop a bank robbery too. After that, Jake decides to meet Amy at the hospital but has no way to get there. But Amy’s not at the hospital, she’s in the break room at the precinct preparing to give birth there. Reluctantly, Charles suggests Jake take recently promoted Lieutenant Peanut Butter back to the Nine-Nine. Jake has never ridden a horse before.

At the Nine-Nine, Amy gives birth in the cute little delivery room that Hitchcock and Scully put together. And they were only concerned about eating the food before it went bad a few hours ago. Because there are no epidurals at the precinct, Terry and Holt distract Amy with their dance moves. It was completely charming. Thank goodness Rosa filmed it. Jake makes it just in time for the birth of their son, Mac. Mac is short for McLane, after John McLane, Jake’s Die Hard hero. Amy tells Jake that she’s proud of their son for having him as a father and Jake says the same thing. Jake and Amy really are going to be great parents and baby Mac has a pretty cool birth story.
