Catherine Zeta-Jones has reportedly checked herself into a mental health facility for treatment of her bipolar disorder. A source have stated the 43-year-old actress, who has been open about her personal battle with the disorder, checked into treatment on Monday and is expected to complete a full 30-day program.
A representative for the Academy-Award winning actress said, in an email to the Associated Press, that she made the decision to “proactively” seek help, and “is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner.”
Zeta-Jones was diagnosed with the illness in 2011. In a former interview with InStyle Magazine, she said, “It’s not easy. I’m not the kind of person who likes to shout out my personal issues from the rooftops, but with my bipolar becoming public, I hope fellow sufferers will know it’s completely controllable. I hope I can help remove any stigma attached to it, and that those who don’t have it under control will seek help with all that is available to treat it.”
