CBS took their time in announcing that hit series Criminal Minds would be returning for a ninth season. For a short time following the dramatic season finale episode, “The Replicator”, there was a possibility that the show may not return.
However, following last minute negotiations all cast members signed new contracts. Looks like the BAU will continue searching for and stopping “unsubs” in their tracks after all.
Joe Mantegna, who plays SSA David Rossi in the show and is the voice of Fat Tony in The Simpsons, told reporters at the Monte-Carlo TV festival that the future of the show is safe.
"There was no reason for Criminal Minds to go anywhere and there shouldn’t be any reason for a long time," he says.
Mantegna also defended the show against criticism from ex cast members of excessive violence, as violence is a part of the world that Criminal Minds inhabits.
This video features the star discussing the events at the end of Season 8 and how the show manages to show a good balance of happy and sad aspects of the characters’ lives away from the BAU.
