After two seasons, Chelsea Handler is walking away.
In a statement released via Twitter, the comedian, producer, and host shared with fans that she has decided to end her Netflix talk show, Chelsea. Some reports have claimed Netflix cancelled the show, but the streaming giant has not commented on the matter. In her statement, Handler said she wants to focus on more “meaningful” projects and activism, including working with the female-focused political organization, EMILY’s List.

Handler’s previous Netflix docu-specials, Chelsea Does…, tackled challenging topics like drugs, marriage, and racism. In an Instagram video post earlier this year, she described the inner passion driving her to work on more weighty issues: “I had a friend today tell me that I was being too political, that I was being too aggressive. I am a white woman, and I have a lot of privilege. I make a lot of money, and I don’t have a lot of problems. And a lot of what this administration has proposed thus far won’t even affect me personally…But I know this country is based on inclusiveness, on welcoming people, on loving people that are not like you, on not worrying about how something impacts your life personally, but how it impacts all the people around you and all the people that aren’t around you.”
Handler added simply, “It’s compassion, and it’s empathy. And I will fight for it. If I come off as being aggressive, it’s because I care so much about doing the right thing.”
Prior to Chelsea on Netflix, Chelsea Handler hosted the talk show Chelsea Lately on E! from 2007 to 2014. In addition to numerous bestselling books, she also appeared in the 2012 rom-com This Means War, with Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, and Tom Hardy.
As she steps into this next phase, Chelsea Handler is clearly ready to move on and make an even bigger impact in the world.
