Season 3 of The Voice, the rating were sky rocketing, pushing NBC to the front of the back of the age old ratings battle of the networks so fans and executives themselves were shocked when celebrity coaches Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera asked for a break.
Aguilera expressed in an interview last fall, “Being a coach on The Voice is a wonderful experience and the relationship amongst us all is like an extended family,” Aguilera said. “As I have expressed since day one of the show, that I am a singer and performer first and I am so excited to get back to that love. Since this year NBC and The Voice have decided to tape back-to-back seasons, requiring a full-year commitment, it is important for me to take Season 4 off, allowing me to support my music that my fans have been waiting for.
Aguilera and Green were both replaced with fellow Grammy Award winners, Shakira and Usher. With new coaches ready to fill the chairs there was much speculation as to would the show keep the same momentum it always had since its premiere; and it did. Ratings with the new judges stayed steady and even grew slightly from week to week. With the constant success there was an underlying question of would the originals return?
Well word has leaked that powerhouse diva Christina has reportedly signed a $17 million dollar contract to return for season 5, as Shakira will exit to work on a new album. As of now Christina nor anyone from Camp Aguilera have commented on the report.
Executive Producer Mark Burnett said change on the judges panel is a part of The Voice. “Everybody can’t coach for life because when you have people with current recording in the game, this is not their job. Their job is their fans and making music and being live, and so we knew from the beginning that this would happen, and we’ve had six coaches. They all have another life and their schedules,” he noted before the current season started.
