Coheed and Cambria fans are once again proving to be the one of the most dedicated fanbases in music. Eight months ago, a campaign calling for the development of a series or movie based upon the saga of frontman Claudio Sanchez’s epic The Amory Wars came to be on Change.org. After several months of fluctuating momentum, the campaign seems to have picked back up, taking the number up to over 3,000 signatures as of this writing.
Some may recall back in 2012, it was reported that actor/producer Mark Wahlberg was teaming up with Sanchez to develop a film based on the comic series. After that, there was nothing. It seems that maybe Walberg traded “Welcome Home” for Daddy’s Home. Be that as it may, fans are still interested in an on-screen adaptation of the sprawling story and we’re looking at Netflix to distribute this reality.
Things may have worked out for the best. A feature film would be incredible, sure, but maybe it’s not entirely the best thing for a story that is still ever-evolving and continuing to grow. It’s my opinion that The Amory Wars would work best as a series. It may be easier to find a starting point in all of the cryptic and interlaced storylines that way, as Sanchez mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that,
“because the mythology is very dense and a lot of parts are already created…it’s just trying to find the right starting point to get people attracted to it.”
There is plenty of source material and I think that Netflix would be open to taking a chance on The Amory Wars, considering Coheed and Cambria has done nothing but continue to grow in popularity and the audience is here for it.
