Digital Spy reports Apple may be planning a coup d’état by usurping Microsoft’s popular Kinect device with their own motion sensor.
The company is allegedly in contact with PrimeSense, the 3D sensing company which was instrumental in the creation of the first Xbox Kinect. According to a source speaking to Engadget it seems Apple is in the plans of buying PrimeSense, for around $280 million.
Kinect is okay and all, but imagine if Apple managed to implement 3D sensing technology on portable devices like an iPhone. That would seriously give Microsoft a run for their money.
And that may be exactly what Apple has in mind, seeing as how PrimeSense has been working on a sensor known as ‘Capri’ which is basically a miniature 3D sensor. Even with the Xbox One coming packaged with a Kinect ‘2.0’, Microsoft is going to have a hard time competing with Apple’s hypothetical mini motion sensor.
