20th Century Fox sent the rumor mills into overdrive when they registered for the domain name X-ForceMovie.com recently. The website X-Men Films reports that an X-Force film will be following X-Men: Days of Future Past, which had already been announced.
This is not the first time details of a movie have been leaked by in this way. Many of the movies in the X-Men franchise have been disclosed in this way.
X-Force, a Marvel Comics team of fictional superheroes, is a spin-off of the X-Men franchise and was first seen as a stand-alone series in 1991.
The series and characters have undergone many changes and revamps since their creation and new titles of the series were recently released with the Marvel NOW! relaunch.
Fans of X-Force were first given the hint of a possible movie by Marvel consultant Mark Millar last year.
“You have to remember that Fox grabbed the X-Men back in the ’90s because it was the biggest franchise in the world. So X-Force or Cable or Deadpool — all these amazing characters are things we haven’t really gotten to yet. X-Force #1 was the second biggest book of all time behind Jim Lee’s X-Men #1, so there’s an immediate brand recognition to that stuff and a build in fanbase.”
Until official details about X-Force are released, fans will have to make due with the latest X-Men film. Directed by Bryan Singer and starring celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Patrick Stewart, X-Men: Days of Future Past will hit theaters in July 2014
