Taylor Swift has backed out of a contest that she was participating in due to the person who won.
Hold up, rewind. Let’s do a bit of back-story first.
Swift was working with Boston’s Kiss FM to kick-start a contest seeking out her “Biggest Fan.” The contest was allegedly “hijacked” by an online community named 4chan. A 4chan user campaigned to the community to assist his friend Charles, 39, realize his dream of meeting Swift.
“My creepy 39-year-old friend named Charles would like to crush all those girls’ dreams (and then sniff Taylor Swift’s hair cos he’s into that) by winning this instead,” he said. “Help him crush the dreams of these girls and give him the chance to make a complete ass of himself by blatantly just sniffing her hair with the cameras rolling.”
With the help of this friend, Charles quickly shot to the top of the leaderboard in the contest’s standings. Apparently, whether or not Charles is a real person, or a catfish character meant to be a hoax, is still unclear.
Kiss FM was forced to terminate the contest, stating that the whole thing had been compromised. “Disappointingly, we have determined that the integrity of “Taylor Swift’s Biggest Fan” contest has been compromised,” the radio station stated.
“In accordance with our contest rules, effective immediately, the contest has been terminated. We apologize to all of our loyal listeners who have participated.”
Major bummer for all of the Boston Swifties out there; maybe next time Kiss FM will put some restrictions on who can enter.
