I’ve often wondered if we will ever see what the members of Daft Punk look like. I once attended a Gorillaz concert when I was younger, and found myself disappointed that I never got a chance to see what any of them really looked like.
According to MTV, Daft Punk decided to cancel their appearance on The Colbert Report, despite evidence to the contrary. The “Get Lucky” singers recently had a scheduled performance on the Comedy Central talk show, which ended up being cancelled at the last minute. Colbert had opened the show on August 6th by saying that a conflict in scheduling between Comedy Central and MTV had led to the French singers, who recently confirmed the release of their new single “Lose Yourself To Dance”, to pull out of their scheduled appearance.
As it stands, MTV is now claiming that it was actually Daft Punks decision to cancel their appearance just hours before they were suppose to go on the air. Colbert said on the August 6th show: “Here’s the story, it’s a true story. We booked click and clack over here about a month ago. This network is owned by Viacom, which is also the owner of MTV. Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards. Don’t tell anyone, because fun-fact, no one told me until two hours ago.”
In regards to the incident in question, Colbert claimed that before Daft Punk’s scheduled appearance on the Comedy Central show, the artists had apparently refused to do any talking or performing. How exactly does that work? Colbert relayed that they said, ” Do you want to cancel?” Colbert said, “No, this is an interesting challenge.” Colbert continued to say: ” I wish we could have done this joke, it was ‘Paul, (their manager), can I ask you, how do you even know it’s them in the robot outfits?’ And he goes ‘Stephen, if it wasn’t really them, they’d be doing the song’.”
So instead, they had stars like Matt Damon, Jimmy Fallon, and the cast of Breaking Bad dancing around to the song “Get Lucky”. This was another thing that the duo behind Daft Punk also seemed to have a problem with and were “uncomfortable” with the idea.If you didn’t want others dancing to it, then perhaps you should have just performed the song.
Jess Ignjatovic, who is the executive producer for the Video Music Awards on MTV, had told the Hollywood reporter: “We don’t put restrictions on anyone. I just think that we’re talking to them about a moment and then things sort of change. He added: “I would not describe that as MTV putting restrictions on people, it was up to that artist and their management what they wanted to do.”
