As the world continues to struggle with the various impacts – professional and personal -of the ongoing Corona Virus pandemic, the need for everyone to be aware of and look after their mental health is perhaps now more important than ever. Though it’s common knowledge that too much time on technological devices can be and is bad for us – mentally, emotionally and physically, over the past few months and with so many people in and out of lockdown, spending days at a time at home, our connection to tech, and especially social media sites such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, has become a key part of the mental health discussion. It’s the key point of danny G’s new single “lose my cell phone”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere.
Asked about the story and inspiration to the track, danny says: “lose my cell is a super special one for me. The song addresses mental health and as someone who’s battled with anxiety my entire life this record just feels bigger. Technology is a blessing and a curse. On one hand it opens up avenues for creatives to get their material out there, gives us a way to stay in touch with each other, and spreads love and positivity. But on the other side of the coin there’s the pressure to get likes, maintain a strong social image, and keep up with the newest trends.
I’m hoping this song can be the start of an ongoing discussion between my fans and I, one in which we can be open and honest about our struggles and be there for each other. The song is raw and honest from the lyric all the way to the production. I hope listeners resonate with the record and feel that they’re not alone in their anxieties. We’re all going through this crazy year together and I think sometimes the best way to help someone is to just let them know you’re right there with them.”
To coincide with the release, danny will take to Instagram and Tik Tok and set his fans a task/challenge, while asking them a question: “How much time did you spend on social media today?! He hopes to encourage people to put down their phones, tablets and other electronics, if only just for a day, in order to reconnect with themselves and find a balance between life online and life in the here and now, with the people around them.
