It’s just over a week until Darren Criss kicks off his first solo tour, Listen Up, and today he dropped a couple of big announcements.
The first is that fellow Michigan alum and long-time mate, Theo Katzman, is opening for every show of the tour. Initially slated to open for a select few shows, in a Twitter Q&A last week, he hinted at the possibility of doing more when we asked.
Katzman is a New York born and raised singer/songwriter/guitarist/drummer. His music has an indie/soul vibe and regularly has done one off gigs with Darren and fellow musician Charlene Kaye.
Katzman has released two albums. In 2010, he debuted his 4-track EP Solo Acoustic EP. He followed this up in 2011 with a 9-track album, Romance Without Finance. The album is available to download on iTunes. As well as opening each show, Katzman will be playing drums in Criss’ band.

Also announced today was that Charly and Margaux, a Brooklyn based string group, will be opening the San Francisco (29 May), LA (30 May) and Anaheim (31 May) shows. According to their website, they have “developed a distinct sound” that has combined “elements from baroque styles, East Asian folk, and personal bluesy flavor”. You can check out their sound at their website.
The final announcement from the Darren Criss camp today was the news of a Paris acoustic gig at the Nouveau Casino on June 17. Tickets for that concert go on sale Thursday 23rd May from Livenation.
