Darren Criss is back with more new music. Though by “new” I mean “a song he hasn’t professionally covered before”. We’re still waiting for “new to us” music, coming on five years now (excluding Darren and his brother’s Chuck’s three-song EP released earlier this year). But we’ll take what we can get, and with a voice as simply breathtaking as Darren’s, what we get is always so, so great.
Last week Darren Criss tweeted an image of a date, telling us to stay tuned and fans wondered what he would be sharing.
I wanted to share with you a version of “I Dreamed A Dream” I recorded. Hope ya dig. Watch the video now on YouTube. https://t.co/vXz87UIubf

I even turned on Twitter notifications so I could get the news while at work. A few minutes after noon today, Darren tweeted, sharing a link to a cover of “I Dreamed A Dream” from Les Miserables. This is, I think, the most iconic song from the amazing musical, and he sings it so well, though I think some of the song’s power is lost in his slightly upbeat guitar playing and smooth, sultry voice. It’s so good to hear a professionally recorded version of this song from Darren, considering that all the covers found on YouTube from various events Darren has played at, like Elsie Fest, are just recorded on some audience member’s phone.

Speaking of Elsie Fest, which is the Broadway music festival held in NYC and created by Darren Criss, the release of this song is acting as publicity for this year’s date, which is October 8th, 2017. After sharing “I Dreamed A Dream”, Darren announced on Twitter that presale for Elsie Fest would begin August 1st at 10am. If you’re close to New York or are willing to travel to see the raved about event, make sure you’ve marked that date down!
