His character may have been defeated in season one, but that’s not stopping fan-favorite actor David Tennant from showing up in the second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones.

How will David Tennant return?

Earlier this week, Entertainment Weekly released a behind the seasons look at the second season of the hit show, revealing a behind the scenes photo of Tennant and series star Krysten Ritter, though no information has been released as to what capacity the he’ll be returning. It is entirely possible that Tennant’s Kilgrave will be returning in a flashback or will be back from the dead, a plot device comics are notorious for using.

Jessica Jones is a series that, among other things, deals with PTSD and trauma, so it definitely wouldn’t be unusual to see the return of the Purple Man as something out of Jessica’s mind. Kilgrave, whose powers of mind control and manipulations left a deep mark on Jessica’s psyche, would be a good way to show how her character is still struggling. Plus it would be a good way to bring back Tennant, an extremely popular actor in the geek community, having previously played The Doctor on Doctor Who.

Resurrection through the sinister organization the Hand is also possible, as we have previously seen that they are capable of such things, though Kilgrave would be nearly impossible for them to control.

Jessica Jones will return for its second season in 2018. The first season gained a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with its critical consensus reading that "Jessica Jones builds a multifaceted drama around its engaging antihero, delivering what might be Marvel's strongest TV franchise to date." The series has also won multiple awards, including a Peabody Award for Entertainment and Children's programs. Ritter also won TVLine’s Performer of the Week award for the episode "AKA You're a Winner!" In December2015, IGN named the series the best of Netflix’s original programming to date.
