Indie-pop artist Dawson Fuss has just released his latest single “Free” and it leaves listeners with a touching sense of self. The new pop track allows fans access to a new vulnerable side of Dawson that has never been seen before, with lyrics that highlight the struggles of growing up unsure of how to accept yourself for who you are and find what really makes you feel liberated – Dawson beautifully transforms his vulnerability into one of his greatest accomplishments. In his own words, he says “Free” is: “…a song about longing to be your 100% true and authentic self and the complete joy when that wish comes to fruition.”
The story Dawson tells with and through this new single is one that many can relate to. The lyrics address how difficult it can be to hide your true identity when all you want to do is free yourself while the song as a whole takes listeners on a cathartic trip through Dawson’s past experiences and how he has overcome them all while staying true to himself. “Coming out was something I had always tried to avoid because I didn’t want to come to terms with being gay,” he explains. “I convinced myself that my sexuality was a burden to myself and others. However, after I finally realized that coming out was something to take total pride in, I was able to let go and feel truly ‘Free.’”
The story this song tells is truly inspiring for anyone struggling with self-doubt and it resonates with a powerful message about remaining true to yourself even when every external factor is fighting against you.
