Arrow Productions has decided to take legal action against the Harvey Weinstein film, Lovelace. The movie is a biopic of Linda Lovelace, but Arrow Productions is claiming that the new film has taken more than five minutes of footage from their legendary 1970s porn film Deep Throat, which starred Lovelace. The lawsuit seeks $10 million in damages.
Deep Throat earned an estimated $600 million and made a name for Lovelace. However, 10 years after the movie, she quit the industry and became a campaigner against pornography. She came forward with allegations of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse endured during the time the film was produced. “When you see the movie Deep Throat, you are watching me being raped,” she said. “It is a crime that movie is still showing.” Sadly, Lovelace died in 2002 from a car crash. She was 53.
The new film was showed at the Sundance Film Festival and stars Amanda Seyfried. The Weinstein Company was in charge of distribution while being produced by Millennium Films. Lovelace was set to premiere in the US on Friday, but with these new charges, the premier date could be postponed.
