Continuing to delight music fans on both sides of the Atlantic, Deer Park Avenue, a.k.a. Stephanie and Sarah Snyder, are immensely proud of all they have achieved in their time together, and so they should be.
As sisters who started out as journalists, the pair have gone through their lives side by side, providing each other with unyielding support and encouragement. Through their previous work, they have also both had a first hand look at the best and worst sides of life. Such moments heavily influence the music they create, and nowhere is this more evident than through their latest track “California (Close My Eyes)”.
A highly infectious pop-punk track about the darker side of California; the reality it holds of broken dreams, shattered promises and false hopes. California is a representation of how so many of us, and so many regions of the world and society, have an unquenchable thirst for power, control and authority, which many don’t succeed in getting and are subsequently left feeling disillusioned.
Opening with a look at the glitzier side of life as a celebrity, complete with a photo shoot and a nod to the obsession with reality TV, it then slides into darkness, showing off the grittier scene set within a music venue. The video as a whole is divided between the two worlds until finally the fake ‘Hollywood’ side falls apart, and the venue springs to life, powered by the energy of those within it.
