Doctor Number Twelve Revealed...Tomorrow?

Bec Heim

Content Editor

Is the Twelfth Doctor going to be revealed already? According to a rumor by Starburst Magazine, the answer may come sooner than you think.

Tomorrow if you want to be precise.

Why so sudden? Well according to the article: “Sources have indicated that a Sunday newspaper is intending to scoop the BBC by announcing the name of the new Doctor this weekend. And in order to pre-empt the scoop, the BBC look set to announce the name tomorrow evening, just a single short week since the announcement of Matt Smith’s departure, and hardly time enough for that bombshell of a news story to sink in.”

Well yeah. When Matt Smith was announced I remember there being a television special of some effect. Way to ruin the fun of guessing for everyone anonymous British newspaper.

The article in Starburst even names the three, alleged, big contenders for the role.

Domhnall Gleeson

Look familiar? He better to Potterheads in the crowd. He played Bill Weasley in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Also in a twist of irony, he’s starring in a time travel romantic comedy with Rachel McAdams: About Time. If he does get the role, he’ll be the first Irish and ginger actor to play the Doctor. Coincidentally he’s also thirty years old, the same age as exiting Matt Smith.

Daniel Kaluuya

Kaluuya would be recognized best from Skins as Posh Kennethand The Fades as Mac. He would also join a list of actors who appeared in a Doctor Who episode and were then cast in a larger role. (It’s Tenth Doctor special Planet of the Dead” if you’re curious.) If Kaluuya is cast then he will be the first actor of color portraying the Doctor. He would also be the youngest actor portraying the role at twenty-four. (Smith was twenty-six when he took the mantle.)

Dominic Cooper

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will recognize Cooper as the younger Howard Stark (Tony Stark’s, aka Iron Man’s, father). Currently he’s filming Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If you want to hear Cooper sing he was also in the so bad it’s good movie musical: Mamma Mia as Sky. Cooper was also in the 2006 film adaptation of The History Boys as Dakin. If he gets chosen for the role, it would make so much sense that Tony Stark’s father is the Doctor. (We all will be thinking it. Don’t lie to me.)

Now again I would like to stress that this announcement is a rumor. Outside of Starburst, I haven’t found much on this announcement. Still, my fellow Whovians, keep your ears and eyes opened tomorrow just to be safe.
