Broadway’s Tony winning musical Once will have a new Guy and Girl in the form of Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill (who played one of Matt Smith’s Doctor’s companion, Rory Williams, alongside Karen Gillan who played Amy Pond) and Joanna Christie, who is best known playing opposite Daniel Radcliffe in the West End production of Equus. Christie also appeared in Mr. Selfridge and Misfits.
Broadway.com notes that Darvill and Christie will officially begin performances on April 23, replacing temporary leads Ben Hope and Laura Dreyfuss (who will return to being standbys for the roles).
It is based on the indie film of the same name, about a Dublin singer-songwriter (“Guy”) who is emotionally and creatively stuck until he meets a young Czech immigrant (“Girl”). The Broadway musical is by playwright Enda Walsh, with Academy Award winners Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová providing the music, and John Tiffany directing.
Once the Musical also features David Abeles, David Patrick Kelly, Jillian Lebling, Eliza Holland Madore, Anne L. Nathan, Lucas Papaelias, Andy Taylor, Erikka Walsh, Paul Whitty, and J. Michael Zygo.
