As fans patiently (or not so patiently) wait for September and October to roll around for the premiers of their favourite television shows, Comic-Con (as always) provides a nice cushion for the wait with lots of new information.
Digital Spy spoke with an executive producer from The Vampire Diaries – Caroline Dries – at Comic-Con and got a lot of great in tell about what is coming up for the gang in Mystic Falls for season five.
As we have previously reported, the fifth season of the CW show will be giving us a lot more information about doppelgangers.
Dries joked about the Stefan/Silas plot twist saying, “That was not just because we needed a cool episode out. It was a very interesting mythology that has Stefan’s learning about himself and has Elena’s like, ‘What’s going on with me? Why do I exist?’ we’re going to realize that the doppelgangers are this awesome, interesting mythology that dates back to the year zero.”
It also looks like Katherine may be winning people’s hearts this season…sort of. Seeing as she is a human now, Dries says that she is completely miserable about it.
"She continues to be this conniving, rude, manipulative bitch, but it’s like, ‘Now she can get paper cuts!’ She has to learn how to adapt as all of her victims have. She becomes this weirdly loveable person that you kind of want to date every character on the show."
She also says that since Katherine is the first vampire to take the cure, she does not want to risk dying or trying to become a vampire again because she (nor anyone else) has any idea what would happen.
Now, all of us Vampire Diaries fans know that this show is all about secrets, surprises, and schemes – and this season will be no different.
As we all know (and if you don’t SPOILERS) Bonnie is dead. She passed on to the other side, but is still visible to her friends who have no idea of her current state of being.
Dries said that Bonnie has a, “really cool story from the other side.” It will deal with her coming to terms with her death, as well as other issues that she will come across on the other side; not to mention how to deal with the fact that her friends don’t suspect a thing.
Dries also discussed Elena’s post-secondary plans: Elena will be going to college (with Caroline)!
"[Elena] wants to prove she can be a functioning, normal vampire. She’s going to probably go and be pre-med - her dad was a doctor. She just wants to go to college, go to frat parties, and hang out."
But as this is Mystic Falls, not all will be as it seems. Along with an attractive, sketchy professor, Elena will soon come to realize that something fishy is going on at the university.
And lastly, but certainly not least, Delena fans can relax: the couple will be giving it a real go in the fifth season.
Like in proper Vampire Diaries fashion, things are definitely not going to be easy.
"You know couples in TV shows, you want them to be together and then they get together and all of the sexual tension is gone and they’re boring? We want to be hyper aware of that, but we also want them to be genuinely happy for a little while, because Damon has fought so hard to be with Elena.
“so we just want to go against the grain and make them a happy couple without bickering and fighting every episode, but actually make their relationship suffer from real-life issues that come up in normal people relationships, and make it less about mythological conflict getting in the way,” Dries told Digital Spy.
It looks like this season is going to be just as action packed as the last four, if not more.
The Vampire Diaries will return to the CW on October 10. Let the countdown begin!
