The shocking death of a Downton Abbey favourite, Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens), was a big talking point amongst fans when the episode aired as the Christmas special (UK) and acted as the season 3 finale in the US.
Now, filming has commenced for series four of the popular period drama. New images have been released of Matthew’s funeral, with Violet Crawley (Dame Maggie Smith), John Bates (Brendan Coyle), Isobel Crawley (Penelope Wilton), and Dr. Clarkson (David Robb) all being present. Pictures have yet to be released of Matthew’s widower Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery) at the funeral.
In other Downton Abbey related news, Siobhan Finneran who played evil maid Sarah O’Brien has confirmed she won’t be returning for season four of the show. Her departure will take place off camera, during the 6 month time jump between series 3 and 4.
Downton Abbey series four will return in autumn on ITV in the UK and on PBS in 2014 for US.
