Dragon Ball Achieves World Record At SDCC

SDCC is already turning out to be one to remember as a Guinness World Record has been set for the iconic Dragon Ball franchise!

The effort took place during SDCC preview night at the Marriott Marina Terrace where hundreds of fans (maybe even 1,000) and special guests gathered to collectively exhibit Goku’s timeless finishing-move the Kamehameha wave. Pulled off by a collaborative effort with Funimation, Toei and Bandai, the event set a new world record several decades after the series initially aired and we couldn’t have been happier to attend. After 30 years of Dragon Ball, the franchise has seen countless merchandise expansions, multiple long-running series, overwhelmingly successful box office performances and consistently crafted video games, showing that it still resonates with audiences now more than ever.

To kick off the 30th anniversary of an unforgettable title, the now record breaking moment was surrounded by a tournament-style backdrop with life sized replicas, detail specific figurines, power scouters and many more immersive features for fans. The atmosphere couldn’t have exuded more love for Dragon Ball, and for SDCC to be celebrating a milestone of its own – this marked a tremendously special occasion that any Dragon Ball fan would have loved to participate in at one of the largest displays of fandom appreciation.

For those hoping to catch a glimpse at the other DB offerings, the exhibits provide gameplay for the ever-growing list of titles, or GIF like photo booths that will be present throughout SDCC. As a joint event from several impactful companies that contribute to the spread of Dragon Ball content, this is easily one of the biggest accomplishments that can happen with a never ending support of Dragon Ball and the future of this thriving franchise.

Dragon Ball World Tour will continue to make its presence known at the Marriott Marina Terrace and a panel slated for Thursday where we could learn about the future of Dragon Ball and everything we can look forward to. After all, how many anime series can claim 30 years of success with plenty of gas left in the tank?
