Get ready for more wacky superhero hijinks, because Deadpool 2 now has a writer! While screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick did work on a script draft, it looks like Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods, and The Martian writer, Netflix’s Daredevil co-creator, and Lost producer Drew Goddard will be taking his own shot at the script as well.
Goddard was hired on by the movie’s director, David Leitch, who you may be familiar with from the John Wick franchise (having taken over the director’s seat from Tim Miller). There is still some confusion for fans regarding what’s going on behind the scenes, as the rumor mill keeps churning out more and more information. Though Goddard is on board, Collider is saying that both Reese and Wernick are still heavily involved in the film as well.
“From what I’ve been told, Reese and Wernick are still extremely involved in the script and project but Goddard has been added as a consultant.”
Ryan Reynolds himself is also involved in the story creation in hopes of creating a worthy follow up to the groundbreaking success that was the first Deadpool movie. Whatever they come up with may have a large overall impact on FOX’s X-Men Universe -- at least, that is what Reese and Wernick hope to achieve.
“The hope is Deadpool 2 and X-Force and future movies all be this new, consistent, sillier tone. More self-aware tone. And edgier and rated R tone,” Wernick said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Yet, in spite of the change in tone, it looks like the universe will still need some stabilizing, as it looks like the upcoming X-Men TV shows will not be connected to the movie universe.
Hopefully, with such talented people behind the wheel, we will get a release date for Deadpool 2 soon! Are you excited? Let us know in the comments section below!
