‘Dumb Starbucks’ Opens In Los Feliz, Cites Parody Law To Stay Open

Is this an act of coffee shop rebellion, or just brand name envy? In either case, a storefront in Los Feliz opened yesterday (Friday) with a few familiar colors. “Dumb Starbucks” has the same logo, menu, and colors as a normal Starbucks, but everything has been brought down to “normal” levels.

According to those employed at this strange location, the coffee shop is virtually identical to any store in the Starbucks chain, save they add “dumb” before everything.

The store will be open today (Saturday) until 6pm, with free drinks flowing out the door as part of the grand opening.

Even without any health code or business license postings to be seen, business was steady this afternoon. When asked how the lack of posting effected their work, the employees admitted they were hired off of a Craigslist add.

A bit confusing, to say the least, and the store’s customers agree.

“I saw online that there was a Dumb Starbucks sign. One of my friends posted about it, and I live across the street, so I just walked over,” Jonathan Brown told interviewers.

Some believe they’re being pranked, while still others believe they could be the unwilling contestants of a reality show.

Dumb Starbucks (@dumbstarbucks) is now the talk of the internet. Having blown up Twitter earlier this morning, the traffic has not stopped, as anyone who wants to, has, or is on their way to see it for themselves has something to say.

Even Rainn Wilson, actor for “The Office,” took up his keyboard!

With so many actual Starbucks stores around, you might ask how all of this is legal. The company answered this in their frequently asked questions list, where they cite the fair use and parody laws. These laws allow them to function with the parent company’s logo and brand, as long as they do not actually think Starbucks is dumb.
