Hollywood sure loves its remakes – I’m sorry, reboots (because there’s a difference) – and this time it’s the Naked Gun franchise in the firing line.
According to Variety, Paramount is set to remake/reboot/reinvent, the comedy film franchise with Ed Helms (The Hangover) stepping into shoes of Detective Frank Drebin, a role that was made famous by the late Leslie Neilsen.
Thomas Lennon (Night at the Museum) and R. Ben Garant (Reno 911) have inherited screenplay duties from the Zucker brothers David and Jerry, who created the character of Frank Drebin in 1982 for the spoof cop show, Police Squad!
Three films were spawned from the original tv show, The Naked Gun (1988), The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear (1991) and The Naked Gun 33 ⅓: The Final Insult (1994) which took a combined $275m at the U.S. box office.
No director is attached to the project, nor has any supporting cast been named as yet, so as always, stay tuned to PopWrapped for more information as it comes to hand.
